Welcome to the Beekeepers Guild of Southeast Virginia (BGSV). We meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 PM in Towne Hall, a wing of Towne Bank located at 137 Mt. Pleasant Rd.,Chesapeake, VA  23322.   The public is invited to join us for socializing and the meeting. Our next meeting will be January 8th 2024. 

December is the the Guild's month for celebrating the holidays and therefore, there will not be a member's meeting for December. 

Beekeepers Introductory Course 2024

The Beekeepers Guild of Southeast Virginia is excited to offer an unparalleled opportunity to attend an introductory course featuring three renowned beekeeping experts!

Sign up early for this three-day course offered in-person or via Zoom; space is limited for in-person attendance. Dr. Dewey Caron, Keith Tignor, and Dr. James Wilson along with local beekeepers will share how to get started keeping bees with an emphasis on sustainable beekeeping practices.

The course will be held on three Saturday mornings, January 20, 27, and February 3, 2024, at the Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center (HRAREC), 1444 Diamond Springs Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. Classes will start at 8 a.m. and finish at 12:30 p.m. each day. An optional fourth Saturday field day, with an open hive demonstration and equipment assembly workshop, is planned for spring as weather permits.

  • Guild Mentor Program
  • Guild Nucleus Colony (Nuc) Program
  • Beekeeping Best Management Practices
  • Bee Pests and Diseases/Integrated Pest Management

This course fulfills the educational requirement of six (6) hours of classroom instruction in introductory beekeeping training for the qualified level of the Virginia Master Beekeeper Program.

Tuition: $65 includes MAAREC Beekeeping Basics handbook, additional beekeeping publications, refreshments each day and a complimentary Guild membership from January 21, 2023 to June 30, 2023. A $20 tuition is available for each additional student in the same household not receiving reference materials.  Minor children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
